Reasons Why Hugs Are Essential for Your Well-being
What is “HUGS”?
Hugging or embracing is a great medicine. It transfers energy and gives the person being hugged an emotional boost. We need four hugs a day to survive, eight to maintain ourselves, and twelve to grow. A hug makes you feel good. The skin is the largest organ we have and it needs a lot of love. A hug can cover a large part of the skin and gives the massage you need. It is also a way of communicating. He can say the things for which you have no words. The best thing about a hug is that you can’t give one without getting one.
Hugs Therapy
The theory behind this therapy is that being touched is not just good. Otherwise, it is necessary! Scientific research supports this theory as it tells us that physical contact or physical stimulation is necessary for our emotional well-being.
Therapeutic touch, recognized as an essential tool for healing, is now part of the training of nurses in large medical centers. Touch is used to reduce pain, depression, and anxiety, as well as to increase the patient’s desire to live, and for premature babies who lack physical contact while in the incubator to help them grow and thrive.
Results of Scientific Experiments
Various experiments have shown that physical contact can:
- make us feel better about ourselves and our surroundings
- have a positive effect on the development of children and their intelligence
- cause calculable physiological changes in both touchers and touchers
- We are just beginning to understand the power of physical contact. Although there are several ways to touch someone, we propose that the form of hugs, is the most special and that it contributes in a greater way to health.
The Power of Hugs
Hugging achieves many things that perhaps you have never imagined. For example….
- it feels good
- undoes loneliness
- defeat fear
- open the doors to sensations
- helps self-esteem (wow, she or he wants to hug me!)
- encourage altruism (I can’t believe it, but I want to hug that person!)
- delays aging (those who hug stay young longer)
- helps reduce appetite (we eat less when we are nurtured with hugs and when our arms are wrapped around others!)
Other Benefits That Come From Hugs
- helps reduce stress
- help with insomnia problem
- preserves the muscles of the arms and shoulders in condition
- provides stretching exercises if you are short
- provides bending exercises if you are tall
- offers a healthy alternative to promiscuity
- offers a healthy and safe alternative to the use of alcohol and other drugs (better to cuddle than drugs!)
- affirms physical existence
- it’s democratic (everyone is eligible for a hug)
More Benefits That Come From Hugs
- it is ecologically sound (does not hurt the environment)
- It is effective in saving energy (saves energy)
- It is portable
- does not require special machinery
- does not require a particular place (the right place to give a hug is anywhere like the foot of the door, an executive conference room … a church, or a soccer field)
- makes happy days happier
- imparts the feeling that we belong
- fill the empty places in our lives
- continues to work to give benefits until after the hug is over
The ransom embrace
This is a photograph from an article called “The Hug of the Rescue.” The article talks about the first week of life of a pair of twins. Everyone was in their respective incubators, and one was not expected to survive. A hospital nurse, against hospital rules, put the babies in the same incubator. When they were put together, the healthier of the two, put her arm around her sister, “embracing her.” The smallest baby’s heart rate stabilized and his temperature returned to normal.
Both babies survived. And the hospital changed its rules
after seeing the effect of being together on babies.
“Hug”
There is something in a simple hug
that always comforts the heart
welcomes us back home
and makes it easier to leave
A hug is a way to share joy
and the bad times we went through
or just a way for friends to say
that they love you because it’s you
Hugs are for everyone
for those of us who should care
from your grandmother to your neighbor
or for your little teddy bear
a hug is a wonderful thing
it’s just the perfect way
to give the love we feel
but there is no way to say it
It’s funny like a little hug
makes everyone feel good
each place and language
always understood
And hugs don’t need special equipment
Special batteries or parts
just open your arms
and open your heart
Hugs that I have given
During the week that the teacher gave us this homework, I gave many hugs, several a day and to the same person, for example to my family, my friends, and therefore I realized that everything that is said about hugs is true, since hugging someone truly feels a comforting sensation, and many things are expressed, perhaps they do not have words to say. I think that this therapy is very effective because hugs produce many effects on the physical and psychological body, quite positively. So I would recommend to all people that perhaps instead of reaching out and greeting each other by hand or kissing, they hug each other. Since it is a very special feeling that is transmitted, it does not matter if you are shy, or timid, when you give a hug you express your feelings to the maximum…
