Jetson One is an electric vertical takeoff and landing (or eVTOL ) vehicle, a full-size manned machine often referred to as a flying car, even though it is wheelless and closer to being a drone (in appearance) than a passenger vehicle.
Jetson ONE, an electric flying car of tomorrow, ready for delivery today
Jetson Aero, a hope in the futuristic sector of flying cars, will debut its vehicle very soon.
Jetson claims that the Jetson ONE is almost maintenance-free and recharges faster than a smartphone.
The Jetson One is, at the moment, the most attractive eVTOL in the world, hailed by many as the future of urban and personal mobility: electric, fun, fast, reliable, and safe.
If the flying car is in the future, the Sweden -based eVTOL startup offers it today, so we must understand that it is coming “very soon”. Unlike the other startups, Jetson Aero is promising early 2023 delivery on pre- orders placed in 2022.
This isn’t much, but it’s more than the other eVTOL companies have been promising: 12 units will be built in the first round of production, followed by 137 more units for the 2023 model, as the company expands and expands. seeks to incorporate more investors.
The Jetson One electric flying car went viral last year when a pre-production prototype was taken for a “ride” in the woods after its official launch. This was the first time founders (and creators) Peter Ternström and Tomasz Patan had a brush with internet fame, even though they had been working on eVTOL since 2017.
A test model debuted in 2018 and, several iterations later became the pre-production model shown in the photos. So…
What exactly makes the Jetson One stand out from a huge crowd of equally promising personal flying cars?
The difference lies in the promise of the creators that it will prove that “anyone can fly”. The Jetson One is a single-passenger eVTOL that won’t require a pilot’s license and, according to Patan, can be operated after as little as 5 minutes of training in the learning room.
Still, Jetson Aero will offer a 2-day training program for owners of the first units (all 12). “You just can’t compromise on security.”
Another difference between Jetson One and other eVTOLs is that, unlike these, the Swedish startup does not claim to solve the problem of climate change or be a suitable alternative for personal transportation.
Jetson One could be the future, but it’s not looking to solve any problems at the moment. Instead, it wants to be a fun and very expensive toy, and create a new segment in the personal aviation market, which it will serve exclusively.
In other words, this first flying car is a testing laboratory for future technologies. Jetson Aero believes the future is electric and airborne, but the One won’t bring it for now.
The Jetson One will only provide 20 minutes of fun for its mega-rich owners, thus confirming what we already knew: flying cars are coming, but their adoption will be slow, long, and with very high prices of entry.
That said, those who can afford to spend $92,000 on a flying toy (with a $20,000 deposit required to reserve) are in for an amazing machine.
One of the founders describes it as a personal jet ski from the sky or a personal helicopter for just one passenger, with an emphasis on safety and ease of use. Control controls are unlike any other aircraft, consisting of a three-axis joystick to control direction, a thrust stick to control altitude, and an open cockpit that offers the “deepest sense of fun.”
Specific safety features include an all-aluminum race car-inspired spaceframe safety cell design that will protect the pilot in the event of a low-altitude crash, a triple-redundant flight computer, and the ability to continue flying if any of its eight motors fail, and LiDAR sensors for terrain recognition and obstacle avoidance in flight.
The Jetson One flying car includes a ballistic parachute with rapid deployment time, and the top speed is electronically limited to 63 mph (102 km/h).
Tesla battery cells are good for a fun flight of just 20 minutes, with a full charge at 220V taking just one hour or two hours at 110V. However, to further reduce downtime, batteries are interchangeable. The maximum flight height is 1,500 feet or 457 meters.
“The Jetson One flying car has been designed with real-world practicality in mind,” Jetson Aero says in a statement.
Legally, you can fly it in open spaces in the United States and other territories without a pilot’s license or mandatory training, because it’s so light. Its lightweight of only 86 kg (190 lbs) also makes it easy to transport from one place to another, as does the fact that it can be folded and therefore becomes even more compact.
Jetson Aero says it will focus on crash testing the flying car in the first half of 2022, before officially starting production of the first units.
Deliveries will be of partially assembled units, but don’t worry: “You complete the build. No special tools are needed,” says the company. “If you get it during the lunch hour, you’ll be flying it before dinner.”
Easy to assemble, easy to pilot, easy to transport, safe, amazing, and fully electric with great potential, this is the Jetson One flying car!
